Essay Contest
TOPIC: Describe a decision you made that was influenced by your friends
or family members. Was their influence beneficial or not?

contest begins on February 22 and ends on May 4.

contest is open to students in Passages 2, TOEFL Prep course, and Academic
Writing.
Essay Contest Terms and Conditions
- The contest begins on February 22 and ends on May 4.
- This competition is open to students age 20 and older
taking the following classes at the Lincoln Center: Passages 2, TOEFL
Preparation course, and Academic Writing.
- No Lincoln student is required to participate and this
project will not affect your grade.
- The essay topic is: Describe a decision you made that
was influenced by your friends or family members. Was their influence
beneficial or not?
- The essay word limit is 400 words. Before submitting
your essay, do a word count and include the number of words with your
name. For example:

- By submitting your essay, you give the Lincoln Center
permission to use your essay partially or in complete form. This includes
creating links to your essay on the Lincoln blog and website.
- Entries will be judged on the following criteria:
a)
English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
b)
Clarity. This includes structure and English vocabulary use of
idiomatic expressions.
c)
Credibility
d)
Degree to which the author adequately answers the question.
- Entries will be judged through the following process:
- After the competition has closed on May 4, each
classroom teacher will choose a winner for their class. The winner in
each classroom will mail their essay to email.
**If
the student does not have access to email, the teacher should sign the winning
student’s paper. The student should then take the signed essay to the
receptionist**
- Then Lincoln Administrative staff will select the
winning essay.
- The winner will receive a 50% scholarship for their
next course at the Lincoln Center and a Lincoln hat. If this person does
take a course at the Lincoln Center, the prize is not redeemable in cash.
